Im sure I dont have BO. I shower each morning and iv never smelt my own BO and iv had no comments. And I cant smell any odour from my urine.

I think my bad breath is different to most others, as it can fill a fair sized room, just from nasal breathing. I have no pnd or sinus issues.
If you have a dental issue, im pretty sure your odour would not fill a room, just from breathing through your nose.
My teeth and tongue seem fine. The odour from my tongue is not too bad. After I brush my tongue there is only a slight smell.
I had deep holes in my tonsils due to repeated sore throat. I had occasional tonsil stones. No problems with stones or sore throats since iv had my tonsils removed.

These antibiotics are making me feel very nauseous indeed ](*,)

Very interesting.

One very strange thing in my case is that not only have I never been aware of any BO on myself, but I've never smelled BO on anyone else either. I often hear people complaining about others who stink of BO, but yet I can't smell any difference. Either my sense of smell simply can't smell certain chemicals relating to BO, or I have BO and my nose has become familiarized to the odour. very strange.

It's even more interesting that you have BB and no BO, and no abnormal urine odour, even with your positive secondary TMAU diagnosis. The key important fact though, is that you have nasal odour which can fill rooms, and you've been fully cleared of all other medical abnormalities. It can only be TMAU or TMAU related then.

The tongue and tonsil issues may be incidental and completely normal, since we're told that neither are exclusive to BB sufferers.

Malory has been diagnosed with secondary TMAU. Maybe he/she might have some advice for you on how to help with the nausea?

Iv been taking my Metronidazole antibiotics religiously, had no beers and kept to a low choline diet. On Saturday, I begin taking the Probiotics.
Iv seen some expensive probiotics, Its called acidophilus. Im going to buy the 20billion 'good cultures' bottle. They are quite expensive, about £18 for 60 pills. But hopefully it will be worth it.

Do I still smell? I would say theres been a big improvement, but I still get the feeling im smelling slightly. Im feeling a lot more confident though. Im just going to keep on with the course.

Im thinking of going out of town and running a few tests, see if I receive any reactions...

After 2 months of the probiotics, im to send in another urine sample So hopefully it will all turn out fine 8)

Quick question

did you ever take any medication for Acne before this nightmare began? antibiotics or roaccutane?

Yes I did. When I was a young teenager. Maybe about 14 years old. My acne wasn't severe though, so it wouldn't have been a long big dosage. I cant remember what sort I took.
Is there any correlation between acne medication and TMAU?

well i was watching a few videos on youtube and acne medication such as antibiotics and roaccutane were mentioned.

I took a big dosage of anti biotics whilst waiting to see a derm specialist which was months.

Then i was prescribed for roaccutane for cystic acne on my back, and quite bad but not scarring acne on my face. Which cleared up perfectly, my skin was never so good. my backs cleared up for good but still I get odd pimples on my face which compared to BB is nothing to me.

Anyway roaccutane is very harsh on the liver and a few people who think they have TMAU have mentioned taking it in the past. my case I took roaccutane when i was 20/21. 22 i become aware of my stench but had commons even earlier which i never clocked on to. Apparently they can cause secondary TMAU.
makes me wonder.

Sorry to keep mithering, how is it going for you?

Well, I feel more confident thats for sure. But it hasn't cleared my bad breath up yet. Iv had a few reactions. Im learning as I go along tho. Im keeping to a low choline diet.

My typical daily diet is:
Glass of hot water
Porridge (with few raspberries or blueberries)
Green smoothies
Chicken
Rice
Pasta
Celery
Bag of crisps
Probiotic yogurts

Plenty of water throughout the day.
Only hot drink I have now is hot water.

After few trial and errors, this type of food tends to be working for me. I do have the odd beer here and there.

Theres a big improvement so im very happy. But yhere is still an odour there I think. But I can deal with it.....

Ps/ I recommend ditching teas and going with 'hot water'. This has helped me.

wow, that is horrible, i think I might have TMAU too. but my smell comes from throat I think and back of the tongue.

You dont have that feeling?

I guess it must come from your lungs then...

For years I thought my problem was TMAU, but I recently got tested and I was negative. I was devastated. I really wanted a diagnoses. I'm at the point where I feel so defeated. Been here before, but each time it wears on me. I've become so anxious and socially awkward around people. I don't feel myself at all anymore. I had to start taking anxiety/depression meds. I told my husband I can't go back to work as a teacher. He understands, but I feel like I have failed him. I am at the point where I want to just become a complete hermit.

Please keep us updated on your progress. I have metronidazole here at home. Tried it for a few days, but got scared and stopped when I got some weird numbness in my foot. Maybe I'll try them again.

I feel exactly what you are feeling. I'm at breaking point. I'm overhearing more comments about "stinking" now. I actually just do not know what to do. I feel like doing something drastic and raging. The medical community is a ****ing joke. If one more person so much as coughs or clears their throat after passing me I swear I am going to punch them in the back of their head. I hate that awful smug clearing of the throat. 2 years later and i'm still no closer to what it is causing the stench than i was when i became aware.

Just made another doctors appointment, I wanna get the ball rolling on a TMAU type 2 test. I just want to rule it out. I'll be surprised even if the doctors know what this is..... gonna print out the sheets from Dr. Nigel Mannings site.

Also got a dentist appointment. I can't bare this any more.

Both on the same day.

Question for you guys.

Do you find the smell gets stronger when you eat? Mine gets out there especially from the right side of my mouth.

Sorry to hijack thread.

Got shot down twice in one day. Was told by dentist "to live with it until better technology comes".

TMAU test "i don't smell anything, I can't help you".

Guess I'll be going the private £194 route for the test.

And to cap that off I was only in work for 10 or so minutes "IT STINKS AROUND HERE!".

Not sure if it was the energy drink I was drinking because others kept saying it smelt "sweet". So maybe I dunno. So ****ing sick of this. medical community are ignorant, I really hope their loved ones experience this then go ****ing tell them to "deal with it". ***k off.

rant over, sorry.

FedUp, id seriously keep away from them energy drinks. The sugar in them will only multiply the bacteria, wherever the bacteria is in you case, by a billion times, thus making the smell worse.

Regarding the TMAU2, if your in the Uk, then the doctor surely cant refuse you getting tested. The NHS is free. Your Drs not an expert in the TMAU field. Demand a urine test, if he refuses see another Dr.

For me, I explained the situation with my Dr, she had a read about it on the internet and organised a test straight away. You need to demand to be tested. I wouldn't pay all that money. Your entitled to be tested.

As for my TMAU2, I still smell. Its not as bad as it was, but I do still smell. Im thinking of going up north to see an expert in it, to find out exactly what I can do or take to keep it under control.
