Update to my current situation

Post by Soon »

Hi guys and girls,

Here is my current update to combat halitosis. Sharing it so others get to learn from my process.

About myself, im non smoker, occasional drinker, no nasal, no gum diseases, no tonsil stones, almost perfect oral hygence, no H pyori (blood tested), no symptoms of GERD, exercise regularly. Basically a healthy individual and yet...

In my last post, i have tried self medication using metronidazole and Diflucan to no avail. With that, i decided it is for me time to seek professional help even though its embarrassing and expensive.

Went to see a private ENT, nothing wrong with my nose and mouth. No seriously tonsil stones issue. He did mention there's a very small stone embedded at the back of the tonsil and recommended day operation that cost approx. $10k. Was told no bad breath.

Decided to get a second opinion from a government ENT specialist. Was told nothing wrong with my oral hygiene and no tonsil stones and no bad breath. :\ Insisted with the junior doctor that i am really suffering from halitosis. She went to consult with her senior doctor and after discussion with me, she decided to refer me to a gastro specialist to have an UREA breadth test and OGD test.

So went to see this Gastro Specialist and he was having flu on that day :/ . But he believed i have bad breath and told me he's a specialist in this halitosis field. Was somewhat happy that someone has finally taken me seriously and was an experience doctor.

He told me tonsil stones do not cause bad breath in most cases. He printed a document on the latest findings for bad breath from uptodate.com. (Anyone can share how i could upload the document for the benefit of others? You cant go to uptodate.com to print as it is members only). He arranged an OGD operation for me (Oesophagoscopy, Gastroscopy & Duodenoscopy)

Just went to the operation yesterday (29/4/16), the findings below:

Upper Esophagus: Normal
Lower Esophagus: Normal
Proximal stomach: Normal
Corpus: Normal
Incisura: Normal
Antrum: Non Erosive Gastritis
Gastro-enteral anastomosis: Not Examined
Duodenal bulb: Normal
Post-bulbar duodnum: Normal

Main indications: Dyspepsia
Diagnosis: Non-Erosive Gastritis
Comment: Gastric biopsy taken

I will be seeing my doctor again in June and also waiting for the result of the biopsy. Will provide an update on June.

Do note that, the finding does not mean that it is the cause of bad breath. I believe this is going to be a long battle. But i will continue to update this post for the benefit of others.
